Movie tickets across the US would cost around $3 on Saturday, September 3rd in celebration of National Cinema Day (via Associated Press). If an individual has never heard about such a holiday it was because it never existed till now.

The $3 worth ticket (not including tax) applies over all tickets, formats and showtimes. Well, yes this would include IMAX and 3D movies. So far, a growing list of 3,000 theaters, along with popular chains like Regal, Cinemark and AMC had agreed to get involved in the new holiday.
An individual does not want to keep a track about their local or independently-run theatres. They can check if their theatres near them where participating or not by entering their location on the National Cinema Day website. Well, the participating theaters would be showing a “special sneak peek” of coming movies from numerous studios along with Disney, Universal, Lionsgate, Paramount, Warner Bros., and more.
National Association of Theatre Owners had created a non-profit making organization named the Cinema Foundation, earlier this year. It has come up with National Cinema Day as the way to encourage individuals to come back to the theaters. Labor Day weekend has been a notoriously slow time for movie theaters because of lack of latest releases, however maybe National Cinema Day might help change that.
During the height of COVID-19 pandemic movie theatres took a pretty big hit and have even contended with a hybrid release model that has some movies that have been hitting and have been streaming services the same day. Well, last year theaters have signed deals with studios like Warner Bros., Paramount, and Disney to promise periods of in-theater exclusivity for certain films.
But this summer had a impressive number of individuals who have been returning to theaters, due to blockbusters like Thor: Love and Thunder and Jordan Peele’s horror film Nope. As per information, this summer’s box office raked in $3.027 billion, a 134.6 percent increase when it was compared to the last summer.
Jackie Brenneman, the Cinema Foundation’s president has mentioned in a statement that “After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we tend do something in order to celebrate moviegoing.” Jackie even added to it that “We have been doing it by providing a ‘thank you’ to the moviegoers that would made this summer happen, and by providing an additional enticement for those that have not made it back till now.”
